Woman Evades Police Following High-Velocity Chase from California into Mexico
A woman previously residing at a female recovery facility in California allegedly took a stolen van and engaged in a prolonged law enforcement pursuit culminating with her crossing the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on the start of the week.
Vehicle Theft Discovered from Sober Living Home
According to a law enforcement announcement, a another female, Nicolle Walters, forty-five years old, reported that her gray minivan from 2004 was missing, along with her vehicle key. Walters, who operates two female recovery residences, identified the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of Los Angeles.
“The keys were stolen from my manager’s handbag. I happened to pull up right when it was occurring,” Walters stated, noting that the vehicle is used for the sobriety home’s tasks.
High-Speed Pursuit Develops Across Multiple Counties
Officials located the van about 12 miles north in Simi Valley, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect did not comply and sped away. She attained speeds of about 145km/h on the 118 freeway until the pursuit continued into LA County. At that point, Ventura county authorities handed over the operation to the CHP once Wilson entered the 405 freeway heading south.
“This incident is particularly unusual in the sense of the road situation allowing drivers to persist on the freeway and prolong this pursuit,” said a spokesperson from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.
The suspect reportedly dodged all the tire-deflation devices deployed on the roadway by authorities, as documented in aerial videos.
International Getaway and Aftermath
The pursuit finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, prompting the CHP to end its pursuit due to legal limitations.
The vehicle owner stated on the following day that the vehicle was located in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was coordinating with the authorities to recover the vehicle.
“At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the car,” Walters remarked. “I’m relieved knowing she wasn’t hurt. The minivan is easily substituted.”
Owner’s Perspective
Walters, who has operated Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from substance abuse and emotional distress is often non-linear.
“This is a psychological and addiction emergency,” Walters emphasized. “We need additional assistance. It is essential to provide greater resources for those that are facing challenges.”
“Recovery isn’t always pretty,” Walters concluded.
